The concept art for the Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Rei OVA has been released on Famitsu's official website. It features all of the main characters' new designs plus several of their designs in swim suits.

Additionally, it has been announced that the Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Rei OVA has been delayed its first release until February. The new release dates are as follows.

Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Rei OVA character design

The Higurashi no Naku Koro ni OVA, Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Rei's official site has been updated with a commercial promoting the series whilst revealing the new character design to be used for the series.

The character design is quite similar to the style used in the Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Kai anime series, but holds a slightly more simplistic tone.

The picture provided at the right is the promotional picture demonstrating the new design. It was scanned from a magazine promoting Rei.

When they Cry... Website Makeover

Hi everyone. I'm going to do a major makeover on higurashi∞infinity to make it more suitable for the upcoming Umineko stuff. I am asking today if any of you have any ideas I could use as the name for the site. For some ideas, higurashi∞infinity was chosen as the name to represent this site with the "infinity" representing the endless June in Higurashi no naku koro ni. The infinity sign is also located on the logo for the animated series, and therefore was chosen. I need a name for both

Umineko no Naku Koro ni soundtrack announced, to be released soon

The Umineko no Naku Koro ni visual novel soundtrack will be released August 15th at comiket, and will be fully on sale at anime shops on August 29th. Shikata Akiko, who is the already known artist for the theme song of the Umineko visual novel, will have a large role in the soundtrack, and will release a new song within the soundtrack titled "Katakoi", a full version of the song "Umineko no Naku Koro ni" and several other songs. Hiroshi Yoshino, who arranged the Wolf & Spice soundtrack, and Takashi Yoshi who did soundtracks for many movies will also contribute in the soundtrack. It will cost 1,500 Yen, with the catalog code The tracklist is below.

Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Rei Update

It has been announced that the upcoming Higurashi no Naku Koro ni OVA, Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Rei, will contain 5 episodes. I am getting the impression that it will go straight to DVD, with no TV release, as the DVD release dates have already been decided, but I'm deeply hoping it will be shown on TV because a two-month gap between episodes seems like a bit much. It will be released on a span of 5 DVDs with one episode on each, with a total of three arcs. The release dates are as follows.

Funimation Licenses North American "When They Cry" Releases

A day I have been looking forward to for a while, Funimation has relicensed Higurashi no Naku Koro ni's North American release, or "When They Cry." The previous licensee, Geneon, went under and was forced to drop all of it's series'. As a result, the volumes following vol.3 were put on indefinite hiatus and were presumed to never have an official North American release, and the already released DVDs went out of print and are now extremely rare. Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Kizuna Release

The DS port of Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Matsuri, Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Kizuna has been released in Japan. If you haven't heard much about it until now, both are visual novels and the original story of Higurashi no Naku Koro ni. They were originally computer visual novels but the graphics were redone and updated, with added extras, and made for the PS2. That PS2 game is now available on the Nintendo DS (with more arcs than the original). Keep in mind that this is a visual novel, which is not a traditional, completely interactive video game and involves a lot of reading (with occasional voicing-- lovely!) I've retrieved links to download the game so you can test it yourself. Of course, this game is in Japanese and unless you have a decent Japanese vocabulary you're going to have a hard time playing, but you can always grab the handy dictionary. If I find some time I'm considering to make an attempt to translate it and hopefully start an internet spur of translations... maybe. Enough talking! Here are your links. Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Rei

The OVA set due for late this year/early 2009 has finally been confirmed to be titled "Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Rei." The story was originally released as a fandisc game which was released at Comiket 71 on December 31, 2006 as a token of gratitude to the fans. (Rei means "Gratitude") It takes place directly continuing the final scene of the last episode of Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Kai. If there is only one arc in the OVA, it will be titled "Saikoroshi-hen." If they decide to have more than one arc, it will also include "Hirukowashi-hen," however it is unlikely that it will also have the latter.

Higurashi Fair: The Real-Life Watanagashi

A Higurashi fair will be held on May 31st to June 29th. It will be themed after Watanagashi (Cotton Drifting), for a real-life Watanagashi festival. To catch the atmosphere, it will also extend to a shrine that is to be named "Furude Shrine" for the days the fair is going on. It will hold mainly at the Animate headquarters in Ikebukuro. Character CD: "Irie and their Counterattack" track listing

The (probable) final Higurashi no Naku Koro ni CD has been given a tracklist. As mentioned before, the CD will be sang by the voice actors of Irie (Doctor), Chie (Teacher) and Akasaka (Police Officer Investigator). Here's the tracklist for you all. It will be released on August 15, 2008. I honestly don't understand the extremely long release date, however.

Higurashi Photobook: Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Illustrations

A new photobook is coming out titled "Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Illustrations" (ひぐらしのなく頃に　イラストレーションズ). It will be released on May 24th (2008.05.24) and will cost ￥2,500 (which is about US$25 in America's current economy). The images in the photobook will be all of the images used to promote Higurashi throughout it's entire anime airing. That includes all magazine illustrations, calendar pictures, box art, etc. Don't worry though- all of the images with be clean and textless unlike previous releases. Umineko no Naku Koro ni to be animated!

The third story of the 'When they Cry' series is finally going to see it's adaption into the animation world. The animation will, like Higurashi, be animated by Studio Deen. The official site of higurashi - oyashirosama.com - has created a special page with small bits of information regarding the Umineko animation, which you can see directly here. Umineko is the third story in the 'When They Cry' series (Higurashi no Naku Koro ni being the first, and Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Kai being the second). It made it's debut as a visual novel on August 17th of 2007. It currently has two releases with another planned for release, and more being made. _____ Regarding the site, though a site for Higurashi, I will continue to update on information and news of Umineko. Higurashi Third Series, Not Third Season

It has been reported that news for the Higurashi third season will not be a third season, but a third series. It will be released in the form of OVA (Original Video Animation). (For those who do not know, OVA's are usually around the length of 2 episodes.) It is still unconfirmed whether the series will be based off of Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Rei (two stories that were originally released on a fandisc in 2006), however suspicions are still high that that will be the case. Higurashi Manga American Release

Higurashi has been acquired for American distribution by Yen Press. The publisher made the announcements during its Saturday afternoon panel at New York Comic Con 2008. It will initially run in the Yen Plus anthology magazine, the first issue of which will be sold starting on July 29. Standard volumes of Higurashi will go on sale in the first part of the next year. A new movie trailer has been released from Phantom Film for the upcoming Higurashi movie due for theaters this summer, which you can watch below (coming soon) or at Phantom Film official site. It is more in-depth than the previous teaser that was released and I've developed more positive feelings towards the movie so far. Phantom has also released a promotional poster (chirashi) for the movie as well, which you can see to your right. (And in case of inquiry, the text on the paper is Keiichi's hidden 'suspicion letter' he placed behind the clock.)
